Convert AST to Mermaid.
Parameters
direction : "TD" | "LR"
Layout direction.
named_items : bool
If True, emit ID["Label"] node declarations and quoted edge labels
(best for Jupyter/image). If False, emit plain identifiers and pipe
edge labels (compatible with mermaid-ascii).
